Changes in ABA - like Substances of Gladiolus gandavensis during corm Maturity , Breaking Dormancy , and Corm Growing

Abstract
Changes in ABA-like substances due to the dormancy-breaking at 5¡É and active growth of Gladiolus gandavensis cv. Topaz were bioassayed for various parts of it.
Immediately after harvesting, the activity of ABA-like substances at Rf 0.7¡0.8 was not present in the basal plate (including growing points), however, it was found very much at the basal plate after corms were treated with the low temperature, and inhibitors (Rf 0.1¡0.3, 0.4¡0.6) were found a considerable amount.
While the corms were growing, dry weight and ABA-like substances in the various parts were gradually increased, and also inhibitors were found a high level.
It can be thus suggested that ABA is closely related to translocation and accumulation of metabolites in the growing corms and mobilization or translocation of nutrient elements at the growing points while maturity and dormancy breaking are taking place.
